Elitesse is a flagship product of Skawa, a confectionery manufacturer founded in 1921 in Wadowice (where Pope John Paul II was born). It is a wafer with cocoa filling covered with chocolate. Its distinguishing marks are its shape – an isosceles triangle, and the transparent wrap with yellow label. It’s been produced since ca. the 1960s. Today the wafer also comes in different shapes (rectangular, finger-like), flavours (peanut, coconut, toffee) and names (Eliteski).

Danusia is a dark chocolate rectangular bar with thick alcohol-flavoured cocoa-peanut filling. It is probably the most recognisable product from Wawel. It was named after Adam Piasecki’s (the founder of Wawel) lover – Danusia, who worked in the factory in the 1920s. Piasecki came up with a unique taste and dedicated it to her. The picture of Danusia is still found on the package of the bar. Recently Wawel has introduced a new version of Danusia – with mint cream.

One bag contains a couple of smooth square wafers (diameter: 15 cm/16 in). They’re extremely thin and fragile. Andruty are said to have originated in Kalisz (nowadays they’re a regional product), where they used to be sold in a park. They’re similar to opłatek, a typically Polish wafer that is broken during the Christmas Eve supper while exchanging greetings.

Złota Wiśnia w Likierze is a Twisted Praline from Solidarność. It’s a hill-shaped dark chocolate praline comprising a whole cherry in sweet cherry liqueur. In Poland it’s very often given as a present in the form of a chocolate box.

The Wedel Mix started to be produced in the 1930s and immediately caught on. The content of the Mix changed several times over the decades. Nowadays only Bajeczny and Pierrot belong to the original one. The current line-up:

Bajeczny (Fabulous) – I dedicated one entry to the bar version of it. It contains cocoa filling with crumbled wafers.

Pierrot (Pierrot) – its bar version has already been described. It’s filled with cocoa and crumbled peanuts.

Manilla (Manilla) – milk and caramel mass. Its name is a reference to a bar from the 1960s. It was a chocolate block (something similar to chocolate salami), which used to be very popular in Poland back then.

Bałamutka (Lurer) – coconut filling with shredded coconut

Liryk (Lyricist) – milk cream filling with mini chocolate chips

Nygusek (Skiver) – Coke-flavoured jelly

Paryski (Parisian) – strawberry jelly

Dragon (Dragon) – spicy-flavoured caramel filling

Among the discontinued ones, the most popular were: Irys (Iris; dulce de leche mass), Rekord (Record; peanuts, caramel and nougat), Figiel (Prank; apple jelly and caramel), Wenecki (Venetian; strawberry jelly), Kawuś (Coffeer; coffee and cocoa), Wiedeński (Viennese; cherry jelly), Tarragona (Tarragona; Sangria-flavoured), Kokoladka (Cocolate; coconut and cocoa), Arachidka (Peanutess; peanuts).
