Delicje szampańskie are round soft sponge cakes with fruit jelly, topped with dark chocolate. The jelly comes in various flavours: orange (the original one), apricot, raspberry, cherry and blueberry. The have been produced since 1977 in Płońsk. Interestingly, up till May 2011, the factory had been run by Wedel, but was taken over by LU Polska. Wedel subsequently introduced his own version of the cakes called Jedyne.

Herbatniki are rectangular cookies/biscuits with distinctively decorated edges and symmetrical holes on the surface. They’re produced by various companies; the most prominent ones include Jutrzenka, Krakuski and LU. They’re very often dipped in tea, hence their name, and can also be used as a bottom layer of a number of cold desserts (e.g. in a quicker variation of Stefanka).

Ingredients: wheat flour, rye flour, glucose-fructose syrup, barley malt extract, palm oil, sugar, caraway seed, salt, raising agent (ammonium hydrogen carbonate), dried yeast.

One bag contains 6 rectangular rusks (8 x 4.5cm/3.1 x 1.8in) with punctures on their surface. They are very hard, crispy and smell of caraway. Their production commenced right before World War II in Jarosław.
